You had a miscarriage…

I wanted to share what I felt was a comforting thought with those who have lost a baby before he or she was born.

Depending on the situation, when people ask how many kids I have, sometimes I say that I have 10 children, 7 here and 3 waiting for me in heaven.  All ten of my children received names, and we visit the cemetery every year where two of them are buried. The third was very early on in the pregnancy and I didn’t have a way to have his remains.

I have often wondered why God would allow those babies to die.  What was the purpose?

And then I read again this summer, as is my tradition, all 7 books in the Chronicles of Narnia and resonated with the most wonderful quote that gave me some comfort.  C.S. Lewis states, “Our lives are the only things we know.  But our life and everything we are going through minute by minute, day by day, are merely the cover and title page of our story.  When we enter Eternal Life, we begin Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read:  which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”

Those babies, that we never heard coo or cry, are waiting for us. They will be a part of our story for eternity.  We were blessed with the gift of creating a soul to be with us FOREVER!  And as hard as it is right now, those babies will be a part of our Great Story.  And what a good read that will be!

  1. So true and comforting. While I am bereft, I am happy mine did not have to face the pain of this life… They got to go straight to heaven. Now that I have a couple of decades between the miscarriages I can think of them without the stabbing pain. Thank you for a place I can talk about it. I have never had a place or person that I could before.
